WIND TURBINES in Andalusia now supply enough power for close to half the region’s populace.
The 2.847 Mega Watts produced is enough to supply electricity to four million people, almost half of the region’s 8.3 million inhabitants. This is due to a massive expansion of wind farms in the region during 2009 – last year Andalusia installed the same amount of wind turbines as Sweden, Denmark and Eire put together. Andalusia is now the eighth largest producer of wind power in Europe; at a national level, Spain is second in Europe after Germany.
There are currently 127 wind farms in Andalusia with two more currently under construction in Malaga and Granada. Wind power accounts for 63% of the eco-friendly power produced in the autonomous region.
